Revised description and rating for March 9 (Sunday) Pocahontas State Park - Mixed Section Hike - Chesterfield (A/3)

  • 09 Mar 2014
  • Chesterfield
Jeff Samuels (796-7949) Celebrate the first day of daylight savings time by going on a moderately paced 13.2 mile hike through the park's N.E. and N. central sections. This very hilly hike will be on a mix of unpaved ed forest roads, hiking and multi-use trails, and on a 0.5 mile moderate off-trail section. In addition to lakes, forests, and streams, see a bit of park history including an old home site chimney, three family cemeteries (one hidden), and depression-era kiln and dams. Bring lunch to eat at the picnic area where we parked. Bring water and perhaps a snack for the hike. Restrooms are at the beginning and at lunch. The park entrance is on Beach Road (Rt. 655) 4 miles west of Rt. 10 (Ironbridge Rd.). Parking fee is $5 without a park pass. There is no need to call unless you have questions. Meet in the big parking lot near the pool/picnic area at 7:50 AM.
