Contact: Art Ritter (o2behiking@yahoo.com).  NOTE: I AM ALSO CONSIDERING DOING THIS HIKE AS AN OUT AND BACK OF 6.3 MILES, NO STREAM WADING NEEDED.  This hike is only about 7 miles, but almost none of it is level.  We’ll leave a car at the end point (near the Loft Mountain Wayside), and drive the other cars to the Brown Mountain Trailhead just a couple of miles north.  From there we will descend steeply down the Brown Mountain Trail for about 0.7 miles, then turn left on the Rocky  Mountain Run Trail to continue the descent until we reach Big Run.  We may be able to rock-hop the 2-3 stream crossings, or we may have to wade, but after a short time on the Big Run Portal Trail, we will ascend about 1,600 feet up the Patterson Ridge Trail over 3.2 miles to reach the shuttle car.  This is an easy shuttle, unlike last Saturday’s hike that I led.  Because of the elevation gain, I am calling the hike “strenuous.”  Contact me if you want to come.  Departure time from the Oilville Park and Ride is 7:45 Sunday the 17th.  The hike is limited to 12 people.  Because of the stream, no one will need to carry more than a liter of water, but bring a filter or other treatment.  It will be fairly cold, so layer up!  Contact me if you’re interested in coming along.
