CANCELED BOTH HIKE AND CEREMONY

December 11 (Tuesday) Ribbon Cutting and New Trails Hike - Pocahontas State Park - Chesterfield (D/3)

Jeff Samuels (jefflsamuels@yahoo.com or 536-2671c). From 1-1:30PM there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for opening the new hiking-only trail system north of Swift Creek Lake. Shortly afterwards (weather and/or trail conditions permitting), join Jeff on a 4 mile hike into this new hiking zone. About 2.3 miles will be on new trail. Only part of the planned trail segments have been built. Be among the first to see this area that was recently set aside for hiking-only trail development. Experience stunning lake views from hilltop overlooks and near the shoreline.

The ceremony and hike both start at the same location, directly across the boat ramp bridge in the small opening in front of the new trail head. Meet there. No need to contact Jeff unless you have questions.

Restrooms adjacent to parking lot, none during hike.

Park entrance is on Beach Road (Rt. 655) 4 miles west of Rt. 10 (Ironbridge Rd). Parking fee without park pass. Park in the big parking lot near the pool/picnic area and walk down to and across the boat ramp bridge from there.

NOTE: Even if the hike is cancelled or the planned route changed due to inclement weather and/or muddy trail conditions, please do consider attending the ribbon cutting ceremony. The more supporters that show up the more favorable the sponsors will view future support for hiking trail projects at this park.
