Jim and Meredith Henry (j.m.henry@verizon.net or 804 513-0365) We’ll be hiking a 5+ miles route that will take us through the new campground and will present one long climb and a few challenging inclines. From Richmond, go to the interchange of Rt. 288 and Patterson Avenue (Rt. 6), drive west approximately 13 miles, taking a left onto 522 South. After crossing the river, continue for 1.9 miles looking for the Powhatan State Park sign. Turn right onto Rt. 617. From Southside, take US 60 West from Midlothian, then US 522 North to a left turn at Rt. 617. Travel on Rt. 617 1.4 miles, turn right into the park and follow the entrance road to the first left on River Launch Road. After making a left on to River Launch Road, meet in the parking area by the boat launch at 1:20 pm. Restroom opportunities will be available during the hike. A start time of 1:30 pm provides a seamless hike/picnic experience. The ODATC’s annual picnic will follow at 3:00 pm with eats at 4:30 pm.
